I stole my boss’s laptop because he owes me, convict tells court.
A 26-year-old man, Mr Udoh Effong, was sentenced to one month imprisonment yesterday by an Egor magistrate court for stealing his Boss’s laptop. Effiong pleaded guilty to the charge and begged the court for leniency (mercy), saying his boss owed him money. He told the court that he had worked with the complainant for 10 months and that his boss only paid him N68,000 and refused to pay the balance of N132,000, hence he took the laptop and gave his friend to keep it for him.
He added that his friend later gave the laptop to his boss, which the complainant however refuted. The prosecutor, Sunday Lucky, told the court that the offence was committed on December 27, 2019 at upper Ekenwan, Ugbiyokho, community in Benin. The magistrate, Esohe Ighodan, however, gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine.
